Looking for an easy way to know what foods to buy at the grocery store for a hemochromatosis-friendly, low-iron diet?

Made with convenience in mind, the Hemochromatosis Help™ Pocket Grocery Shopping Guide is a portable and handy tool to help you follow a hemochromatosis-friendly, low-iron diet.

These practical 4 x 6 in (10 x 15 cm) laminated cards condense the “Best and Worst Foods for Hemochromatosis” lists found in our books into color-coded cheat sheets that will easily fit into your pocket or purse.

Professionally printed and laminated, they won’t tear and will withstand frequent trips to the store.

Each card is broken down into easy-to-see color charts, organized by food groups. For example, if you’re in the produce section, flip to the Vegetables and Fruits cards and easily see which foods to purchase and which to avoid!

    Food groups included are:

    • Cooked Grains
    • Baking Flours
    • Legumes (Beans, Peas)
    • Meat, Poultry, and Seafood
    • Dairy and Egg Products
    • Fruits
    • Vegetables
    • Nuts and Seeds
    • Herbs, Spices, and Sweeteners
    • Condiments and Sauces
    • Beverages

Each page is color-coded into Green, Yellow, and Red sections.

    • The foods in the GREEN columns are foods to eat and enjoy without concern.
    • The foods in the YELLOW columns require moderation for one reason or another (often related to their levels of iron-enhancing or iron-blocking nutrients).
    • The RED column is for foods to limit or avoid due to high iron or iron-enhancing reasons.

Each card comes with a hole conveniently pre-punched in the top left corner. We also provide you with a sturdy metal ring that you may use to keep all the cards together. Alternatively, if you want to keep the cards separate or attach them to your key ring or other location, the choice is yours!

How To Best Use These Cards

These flashcards are designed to be used as a quick reference when shopping or cooking for hemochromatosis.

They are based on the charts and information presented in our books. This means to fully understand why and how different foods made it into these different categories, you’ll want to refer back to the referenced chapters in the books for the full explanation, as the cards by themselves are a simplified summary and don’t tell the full story!

If you don’t already own the books, we recommend purchasing this guide as part of the Complete Paperback Book Bundle for a total savings of over $40! With the bundle, you'll have access to all the information you need to cook, shop, and eat for hemochromatosis.

For those who already own the books, this shopping guide pairs well with our Quick Tips Refrigerator Magnet. These two resources are available together as part of our Quick Tips Kit for a savings of 15%.

Finally, we’ve also created a digital version of this guide that can be viewed on your phone! Add it to your purchase of the printed shopping guide at a discount, or purchase the digital file separately here.
